How do I heat a swimming pool?
The supply of energy for the pool in an outdoor pool is primarily provided by the swimming pool cover. This is available as a so-called solar cover, i.e. the cover slats are transparent and conduct the solar energy to the water while the pool is closed. The water is heated at zero cost! At the same time, the cover ensures that the energy gained remains in the water. Based on the average solar radiation in Central Germany, a 4x8 meter pool can be supplied with approx. 5,000 kWh of energy in this way. In second place, air-heat pumps are in demand, which draw energy from the ambient air and direct it into the pool. A heat pump is operated with electricity and can produce up to 5 kWh of heat per kWh of electricity consumption – its heat gain is therefore significantly higher than its electricity consumption. Heat pumps are therefore particularly energy-efficient. Likewise, the pool can be connected to the house heating system. In this case, the pool would be heated with gas or oil, which can cause even lower energy costs than the heat pump. However, access to the heating system is usually only possible in new buildings. Which heating system is recommended depends on how many months of the year the pool is to be used. The question is therefore: Which equipment is the right one for which bathing period?
