Dreamy pool garden at Ippenburg Castle

Ippenburg Castle is considered a meeting place for the international garden scene. Embedded in a woodland, meadow and park landscape, it is located on the edge of the North German Plain, east of Osnabrück. Surrounded by the castle moat and artistically landscaped gardens with romantic arbors, thousands of summer flowers and perennials and a sea of rose blossoms, the castle owners, the von dem Bussche-Ippenburg family, presented their estate every Sunday during the summer months.

Since the summer of 2009, the castle garden has shown a completely new facet: water in the form of a modern design element now road-tests the garden. With this, the seemingly unthinkable was realized: a modern swimming pool in the immediate vicinity of the castle - linear, classic, purist. It could hardly be more contrasty. The way in which this modern pool blends into the castle atmosphere and at the same time gives it a new face is impressive.

Powerful trio realizes the dream of a pool garden

Three specialist companies worked together to realize the dream of a pool garden. The horticultural company Harms und Müller from Wallenhorst has been designing show gardens at Ippenburg for ten years. 'Water in the garden' is one of its specialties. Thus, it was the right partner to contact. The wish list of the von dem Bussche family formed the basis for planning. The new pool was to be large. The lord of the castle wanted to swim in it, and the grandchildren wanted space to splash around. The lady of the castle was concerned with aesthetics. The pool had to blend harmoniously into the surroundings. A cover to save energy costs and prevent the ingress of dirt was also desired. In addition, haste was required. There were only a few weeks left until the opening of the show garden season. The  conventional construction method would have led to a major construction site in the garden and taken a lot of time. The high groundwater table also spoke in favor of installing a prefabricated pool. RivieraPool had the right concept. The result was the D-Line series one-piece pool. Individual requirements such as underwater spotlights, counter-current system and solar roller cover were already taken into account during manufacture. Thanks to this factory-prefabricated system, the pool was ready for use within a few days after installation. The close cooperation between the company Harms und Müller and the specialist company Schwimmbad- und Saunabau Frenz from Minden ensured a smooth process and on-time completion of the pool garden.

An oversized crane hoisted the 15 by 5 meter pool over the castle moat. The swimming pool builder took care of the earthworks as well as the installation and commissioning of the prefabricated pool. The horticultural company succeeded in merging pool and garden into one single unit.

Modern design in harmony with nature and old walls

Plants, wood and steel elements combine with the pool to create a complete work of art. "With the D-Line, completely new accents can be set in garden design," explains Uwe Rengers, Marketing Manager at RivieraPool. The pool blends naturally into the surrounding wild and at the same time artistic atmosphere.

The new pool color "Granicite Black" gives the water a gentle shimmer and creates a discreet transition to the green bank zone as well as to the Bangkirai wood laid around the pool. No component is located above the pool. Thanks to the spacious stairs with their slip-resistant steps, handrails were unnecessary. The lady of the castle is delighted with the result: "The straight shape of the basin fits perfectly with the elegant garden design." The D-Line pool series is designed according to a modular system. "This allows every swimming pool to be configured according to individual requirements," says Uwe Rengers. A variety of additional elements, such as a spring, stream and waterfall, can be added as options. This makes it possible to realize highly individual garden concepts with a pool completely prefabricated at the factory. The pool thus becomes an integral part of the garden. And that in the shortest possible time.
